The poor girl suffered with Paralysis

1940 June 23, a poor couple gave birth to their gives birth to their 20th child. A Girl... She was very weak, born prematurely……. her weight was less than 4.5 pounds. Her father was a  railway porter and mother was a maid.  The little child contracted infantile paralysis (caused by the polio virus) at the age of Four. As a result, her left leg and foot became Twisted. She had also suffered with scarlet fever, whooping cough, chickenpox, and measles. The doctors decided that the girl cant walk in her life time. But her mother couldn’t believe those words. She had the strong belief that her child could walk . She took her regularly to Fisk University's black medical college hospital in Nashville, Tennessee for treatments for her twisted leg. She wore a brace on her left leg. She was required to wear an orthopedic shoe for support of her foot. The girl couldn’t bare the pain of those physiotherapy sessions and she just hated her life. She too wanted to walk like the normal people, that too without those brace and orthopedic shoe.
Her mother supported her dreams and always used to say that “She too can walk like the other children………… in a few days”. Day by day the little girl started believing her mother’s words and finally achieved her dream of shedding her handicap and becoming like other children. She walked like the normal children. And the story dint end there…… she started running……… she ran……….ran…………ran…………. and won three Olympic titles: the 100 m, 200 m and the 4 x 100 m relay in  1960 Summer Olympics. Her name is Wilma Rudolph. A Girl Suffered with Polio!!! Became the winner in Olympics!!!
